The Vermillion Post 1 Legion Baseball Team hit the road for Dakota Valley last Wednesday. Vermillion lost a close one 3-5.

We had a lot of young guys playing, said head coach Tom Heisinger. I loved how they didn't blink and competed the entire game. Dylan Thelen was great on the moundwe have been waiting for him to do that, and hopefully, he can turn the corner.

Post 1 took the lead from the start as they scored their three runs in the top of the first inning.

It was not until the fourth inning that Dakota Valley scored their first run. Vermillion kept a solid lead, 3-1, through the sixth inning.

Post 1 was unable to add to their score, and Dakota Valley made a comeback. The opponents scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead.

Vermillion was down 3-5 going into the seventh, but Dakota Valley got the three outs on defense to end the game.

Post 1 lost 3-5 after holding the lead for the first five innings.

There were a couple of plays where we didn't have a guy take charge and want the ball, said coach Heisinger. We will have to be more comfortable being the guy to want to make a play.

From the plate, Drew Thelen and Nick Roob each had one RBI for Vermillion. Jack Kratz and Connor Saunders both had one hit each.

On the mound, Dylan Thelen and Kratz pitched for Vermillion. Kratz tallied five strikeouts, and Dylan Thelen had four.

The Vermillion Post 1 Legion team will play two games this Saturday in Garretson. They will play Garretson at 1 p.m., and Lake Norden at 3:30 p.m.
