The Tanager girls’ tennis team went to Mitchell for a quad last Tuesday. They played the host team, a class A team, and Rapid City Central, an AA team.

“Playing AA schools has taught the girls that having indoor courts, playing year round and in summer tournaments is very beneficial to improve their tennis skills,” said head coach Kari Jensen. “Playing competitive A schools has taught them that they can compete and be successful in the sport of tennis, which hasn't had a large following in the past.”

Junior Emma Dahlhoff captured a win in the first flight of singles against RC Central’s Harper Leim.

Seventh-grader Annika Barnett also defeated Cordelia Raforth of RC Central in the third flight.

In the fifth flight of singles, junior Lauren Mandernach won in three dueling sets against Arianna Doty of RC Central.

Seventh-grader Abby Hanson topped RC Central’s Charlize Steele in the sixth flight of singles.

In the second flight of doubles, senior Hope Schladoer and Mandernach beat RC Central 6-1, 6-4.

Vermillion’s next competition is this Tuesday in Madison for a triangular at 9 a.m.
