The Vermillion volleyball team played Canton last Thursday at home. The Tanagers lost after entering a fifth set 2-3.
“I think the biggest thing we learned is that we need to keep our energy up through the entire game,” said senior Brooke Assmus. “We can't let small mistakes ruin our game.”
Vermillion captured the first set, winning 25-16. The Tanagers also won the second 25-20.
Canton battled back to win 12-25 in the third set.
The fourth was a close set, ending in a 22-25 Vermillion loss to send the game into a fifth.
The lead went back and forth between the Tanagers and their opponents. The momentum swung in Canton’s favor as Vermillion fell 13-15 in the final set.
The Tanagers lost the game 2-3 to Canton.
Senior Lexi Saunders recorded 19 digs, 12 assists, and six kills against Canton. Senior Toria Andre had 10 kills and three aces.
Junior Shandie Ludwig tallied 21 digs and five aces. Senior Emily Stockwell had six kills and two blocks. Senior Kennedy Pratt recorded seven assists on the night.
Vermillion Volleyball will play this Friday in Dakota Valley at 7:30 p.m. Their final game of the regular season will be at Elk Point-Jefferson Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
