Tanager gymnastics finished their season at the State Gymnastics Meet in Aberdeen last Friday and Saturday.

I am most proud of how much the girls came together as a team and worked together to improve throughout the season, said Vermillion head coach Shannon Fitzsimmons. As their coach, it was a joy to watch the girls gain confidence in their new roles throughout the season.

Vermillion placed ninth as a team in Class-A with 115.775 points. Deuel won the title with 144.05.

On team day, sophomore Mackenzie Brady, freshman Abby Roob, freshman Maya Radigan, eighth-grader Tori Farmer, and eighth-grader Serena Gapp competed for the Tanagers.

On individual day, Brady competed in the all-around. Farmer and Gapp were in the bars and beam. Radigan and Roob competed in the beam.

Mackenzie Brady placed in the top 15 on bars and achieved her high-score in the all-around during the individual competition, said coach Fitzsimmons. As the oldest gymnast of our varsity squad, Mackenzie, a sophomore, has been a great leader for our varsity team throughout the season.

Brady tied for 17th in the all-around at 32.9. She tied for 14th Bars (8.05), scored 8.725 in the vault to tie for 17th, tallied 7.775 in the beam for 25th, and placed 26th on the floor with an 8.35.

Her work ethic and belief in her teammates helped our team grow, and as a team, we will continue to use each of those to help us reach our potential, said coach Fitzsimmons.

Farmer tied 20th in the bars (7.875) and 27th in the beam with a 7.575.

Gapp was 23rd on the bars (7.8). She scored a 7.8 on the beam to finish 24th.

Radigan was 30th in the beam (7.45).

Roob scored 7.325 on the beam to place 32nd.

Each gymnast played a valuable role to help us get to the state meet, and the girls did a great job handling the pressure and format of a state meet, said coach Fitzsimmons. We are excited that this group still has quite a few years together and hope to use their experiences this year to our advantage next year.
