Tanager volleyball hosted a triangular Tuesday against Gayville-Volin and Elk Point-Jefferson.
“I really like the triangular format and the added competition,” said Vermillion head coach Jodi Zeller. “Our girls had trouble with the conditioning needed to succeed in this format."
In game 1, the Tanagers lost to Gayville-Volin 0-3. Vermillion lost the first two sets 14-25 each and the third 17-25.
Senior Shandie Ludwig had 45 digs in the first game of the triangular. Sophomore Claire Doty had four kills, 20 assists, seven digs and one ace.
Senior Sydney Stockwell tallied seven kills and 16 digs. Senior Eva Knutson had seven kills, one block and 12 digs. Freshman Brooklyn Voss had six kills against the competition.
Gayville-Volin went on the defeat Elk Point-Jefferson 3-0.
In the third game of the triangular, Vermillion lost 1-3 to EPJ. The opponents defeated the Tanagers in the first set 20-25. Vermillion came back to win the second 25-14. EPJ edged out the Tanagers 21-25 in the third. The fourth set ended the game as Vermillion lost by two, 23-25.
Ludwig had 41 digs, three assists and one kill against EPJ. Doty recorded eight kills, 30 assists and 12 digs. Voss had 13 kills, 1.5 blocks and four digs. Stockwell tallied eight kills and 33 digs. Knutson had six kills, two blocks and 15 digs.
