The Vermillion girls’ soccer team started the season 0-2-1 after their first three games of the season.
The Tanagers played their first game away at Garretson Friday, August 16. They played at West Central last Thursday, and in Harrisburg this past Saturday.
The first game against Harrisburg ended in a 1-1 tie.
“We came out strong and created solid offensive pressure and opportunities,” said head coach Shannon Fitzsimmons. “Although Garretson tied the game up in the second half, the girls stayed composed and positive.”
Senior Kenzie Mockler scored the first goal at minute 22. Sophomore Mya DeJong had the assist.
Against West Central, Vermillion lost 0-3 in Hartford.
The Tanagers also fell to Harrisburg 0-2 on the road.
“We have a great mixture of young, but talented, players to go along with experienced upperclassmen on our team,” said coach Fitzsimmons. “Our seniors have been great leaders to start this season, creating a positive and fun environment at practice. As a coach, I have been excited and encouraged by the girls’ desire to learn and get better.”
The Tanagers will play at the USD Soccer Complex this Saturday against Groton Area at 1 p.m.
