Vermillion Post 1 Legion baseball played Dakota Valley in their final home game of the regular season this past Tuesday.
“We played very well and reminded ourselves of how good we can be,” said was coach Tom Heisinger. “It was great to see.”
Dakota Valley started with a one-run lead in the first inning. Post 1 scored two in the second to secure the lead for good.
Vermillion scored another in the third to pull further ahead, 3-1.
Post 1 took off in the fifth as they scored eight runs to end the game early. Vermillion defeated Dakota Valley 11-1 in five.
Post 1 had 11 hits and two errors. The opponents tallied three hits and six errors.
At the plate, Dylan Thelen and Jack Kratz each had two RBIs for Vermillion. Kratz and Willis Robertson had two hits each.
From the mound, Dylan Thelen also pitched the game for Post 1 and recorded five strikeouts.
“It was a great win, but we cannot be satisfied and need to keep going,” said coach Heisinger. “Getting better every day.”
Post 1 is now 10-12 heading into their next game at Tabor this Friday at 7 p.m. Vermillion’s final regular season game will be this Sunday in Parkston at 3 p.m.
