The Vermillion Post 1 Legion baseball team defeated Elk Point-Jefferson on the road last Saturday. They won via mercy rule 12-1.

“Once we are full strength, we need to develop consistency,” said head coach Tom Heisinger. “We have a lot of games coming up, and I'm excited to see how physically and mentally tough we can be.”

Post 1 got their bats going early in the game. They scored three runs in the first inning, and one in each the second and third innings before EPJ got on the board.

The opponents scored their only run in the bottom of the third.

Vermillion kept the ball rolling as they scored another three runs in the fourth inning. They also scored three in the fifth to end the game early and capture the win 12-1.

Post 1 tallied nine hits and zero errors on the day. EPJ had two hits and three errors.

At the plate, Dylan Thelen and Sam Ward had three RBIs each. Ward tallied two hits. Connor Saunders had two RBIs and two hits.

From the mound, Drew Thelen pitched the game for Vermillion. He recorded five strikeouts.

Post 1 will play two games this Saturday in Garretson. They will play the host team at 1 p.m. and Lake Norden at 3:30 p.m.
