ST. LOUIS—South Dakota redshirt freshman linebacker Jakari Starling is one of 12 defensive players selected to the Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Newcomer Team announced Tuesday. League coaches, sports information directors and a media panel selected the team.

Starling of Riviera Beach, Florida, was the Coyotes’ third-leading tackler this season with 70 stops including one sack and four for loss. He also broke up four passes and was credited with two quarterback hurries. Starling played in all 12 games. He registered a career-high 10 tackles in South Dakota’s game against top-ranked North Dakota State.
