The Vermillion Area Swim Team had two swimmers, Emma Lind and Ryder Henriksen, compete at the SD Long Course State Championship this past weekend in Sioux Falls.
“The A-State Long Course meet was a huge success for VAST this past weekend,” said head coach David Lind. “Overall, we placed 16th out of 20 teams with only two swimmers qualifying for the meet. Both swimmers took off time in all their events along with being top 10 in each event.”
E. Lind was in the girls’ 8 and under age group, and she was the youngest female competing at state at 6 years old. Henriksen was in the boys’ 8 and under division at age 7.
E. Lind placed fourth in the 50-meter backstroke with a time of 53.36 seconds. She also finished tenth in the 100 freestyle at 1:54.48.
Henriksen finished fourth in the 50 at 45.95, fifth in the 100 free with a time of 1:47.94, and sixth in the 50 breaststroke at 1:07.67.
“The summer season was a massive success,” said coach D. Lind. “The majority of the team moved up an age group this spring which makes it hard to qualify for the A Championship, but the growth the whole team had—especially from the youngest members of the team—makes me very excited for the winter season that will begin in September.”
VAST will take a short break before beginning the indoor season this fall.
