10U Pitcher

One of the pitchers for the Vermillion Tanagers 10U baseball team is busy on the mound during the Dakota Valley Classic held May 1 in North Sioux City.

The Tanagers played through cold and windy weather at Dakota Valley classic on May 1 in North Sioux City, SD this past weekend. In their first contest the Tanagers upended Sergeant-Bluff Luton 6-0. Sam Vitt was the winning pitcher and struck out six Warrior batters. Kellen Beach closed the door striking out three batters in a row to end the game.

Graham Beacom had two hits and two RBIs. Emerson Jarchow hit a double and Kellen Beach legged out a triple for the Tanagers.

The Tanagers then found themselves in a pitcher’s duel with Alta-Aurelia that would ultimately end in a 1-1 tie due to time restraints. Kellen Beach and Emerson Jarchow threw four shutout innings for the Tanagers striking out a combined nine batters. Luke Uhl, Braxton Merideth, and Sam Vitt had one hit apiece. Luke Uhl would score the only run for Vermillion courtesy a groundout RBI by Emerson Jarchow.

The Tanagers’ final game was against Dakota Valley Thunder. Vermillion fired up the offense in the first inning when Luke Uhl grounded out, scoring Reid Reuvers to take the early 1-0 lead. The Tanagers would out-hit the Thunder, but it wasn’t enough in a 5-3 loss.

Emerson Jarchow pitched two scoreless innings striking out five batters. Luke Uhl pitched one scoreless inning striking out one batter. Sawyer Lee and Braxton Merideth also saw time on the mound.

Reid Reuvers had two hits and three stolen bases. Finnian Fulton, Luke Uhl, Sam Vitt, and Graham Beacom each added a hit for the Tanagers.

Great start to the season for the Vermillion 10U travel team!
