MITCHELL — For 16 minutes, the Milbank Bulldogs went toe-to-toe with the lone unbeaten in South Dakota boys’ high school basketball this season.
After a first-round bye, the No. 1 seed in Region 4A, Vermillion Tanagers hosted No. 4 Lennox last Thursday. Lennox advanced to the second round after defeating No. 5 Canton 64-44.
The boys’ teams from Yankton and Vermillion each hold the top spot in their respective polls as the final South Dakota Prep Media Basketball Poll was announced on Monday.

Tanager gymnastics traveled to Madison Saturday, January 16, for the Linda Collignon Gymnastics Invite. Vermillion placed eighth of 12 teams with 122.7 team points. Madison won the invitational with 136.4 points.
Vermillion wrestling competed at West Central in a triangular last Tuesday. The Tanagers defeated West Central 39-33 and beat Tri-Valley 42-39.
