The Vermillion Tanagers played on the road in Madison this past Tuesday. They won 49-37 to extend their undefeated season to 7-0.
Vermillion got off to a quick start in the first quarter with an immediate 8-0 run. They forced Madison into seven turnovers in eight possessions. The Madison Bulldogs battled back in the second quarter, creating 10 lead changes and finishing the half ahead of the Tanagers by one, 26-25. The Tanagers kept Madison from pulling away by forcing about 10 turnovers in the first half with their zone defense.
Vermillion came out of the locker room in man defense and left Madison scoreless in the third quarter. The Tanagers captured the lead for good, going into the fourth 37-26. Madison got their first bucket of the second half with 6:38 remaining in the game, but Vermillion kept their lead to finish 49-37.
Vermillion sophomore Lexi Plitzuweit had the game-high of 14 points and 4 assists. Madison had zero points off the bench while the Tanagers’ bench had 19 points. Ten of the 19 came from sophomore Shandie Ludwig.
The Lady Tanagers will play again in a doubleheader against Lennox at home this Thursday night with the girls’ varsity beginning at 6:30 p.m. and the boys’ game to follow.
